Born in 1995, Gabriel Boudin grew up in Paris in the studio of his father, Philippe Boudin, a sculptor and engraver. His relationship with this one influences his work, particularly in relation to themes of loss of identity and the fading of memory. This led to the Semis series, created between 2018 and 2024.
Since June 2025, Gabriel Boudin has been working on the Réflexions series. The resonance between natural forms and those of the human body - which he observes and then highlights during the sculpting process - allows him to explore the question of otherness, the encounter with the unknown, and our inner reactions when we come into contact with it.
The Réflexions series also expresses this question through the interaction of the material with light, which, after the wood has been charred and the application of a final layer of wax, hugs the curves and draws a more pronounced connection between concave and convex forms, yin and yang energies.
A symbol of the unknown and of encounter, the letter “x", used consistently in the titles of this series, serves as a common thread linking the sculpted form to the principle of otherness it embodies.
